Six majolica plates, all different, were the inspiration for this tablescape that my BFF Maureen and I created last weekend.
We spent our birthday weekend in the wine country antiquing and hunting and gathering.
We found the motherlode of majolica at The Vintage Bank Antiques in Petaluma.
I bought one plate and she bought five.
Together, we set the table using a Provencal inspired tablecloth as the foundation.
The idea was to create a table that is a riot of color, pattern and texture!
The ruby red glasses are a punch of color, pulling everything together and unifying the patterns and colors in the majolica.
I bought six at a consignment shop, and Maureen found six more at another store, Food For Thought Antiques in Sebastapol.
We both love them for their elegant simplicity.
The centerpiece is simply white decorative cabbage, mimicking majolica patterns.
We set five plants in an old green crusty window box and tucked in burlap to hide the pots.
A few rustic candlesticks and rosemary topiaries on the ends of the table complete the look.
It was fun to pull our creativity together, both arranging and rearranging, as well as photographing the table.
With the battery dead in my Canon, we had to use our iPhones to do the photoshoot!
Maureen will probably hang her five majolica plates on her kitchen wall. It is the beginning of a new collection for her. I have a nice collection at home already, so I kept my one under glass in Asti.

If only you could come totally reset my shop for me! I love your tables capes! They are amazing! What are the bottom plates? I love the brown and white mixed with the majolica! I really want to come shop in your market and find some new sources! Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated! We are headed to a show next weekend and I for one cannot wait! Absolutely gorgeous tablescape. Love the colors and textures. But what stopped me in my tracks was the iron candleabra. Can you share a source? I would really appreciate it!
This tablescape is so beautiful that I'm all eager to go out and buy majolica. I have a couple plates hanging on the wall, but your Provencal theme is stunning!

I found the iron candelabra at an antique market in Alameda, CA. It came from Big Daddy's Antiques. One
of a kind, I'm afraid as it isn't electric. Restoration Hardware may carry the electric version. Good luck!

Oh, mercy me! SO pretty!!!!!! I love the way it all just flows despite the difference in the plates. That just works so beautifully! Your table covering is just beyond the bee's knees!!! I love pattern like that on a table. The cabbage centerpiece is nothing short of gorgeous, and I love the little rosemary topiaries (the big ones, too!)!!! Those are truly some of the healthiest cabbages I have ever seen! This is gorgeous! And have I ever told you how much I like your facing sofas in the living room? I am going to have to show my husband your post so that he gets what I've been prattling on about. The concept is just so foreign to him. Poor dear! Kudos to you and Maureen, and hooray for you guys spending time in wine country...the happiest place on earth! :-)
